Mangaluru, Nov 22: St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru in association with SJEC AICTE IDEA LAB organized a five days Workshop on Advanced Manufacturing Processes from November 14 to 18 for the faculty members of diploma and engineering colleges of Mangaluru region. A total of 25 faculty members registered for the workshop and actively participated during the five days schedule.
The department of Mechanical Engineering has been actively involved in planning and organizing this skill oriented workshop. Dr Rio Dsouza, principal and chief mentor of idea lab inaugurated the programme on November 14. Dr Purushothama Chippar, vice principal, dean R&D and coordinator of idea lab welcomed the gathering and briefed about the activities of Idea lab. Fr Wifred Prakash D'Souza, director SJEC gave the presidential remarks. Fr Alwyn Richard D'Souza, assistant director was the guest of honour of inaugural programme. Dr Ravikantha Prabhu, Rohith Prakash Veigas, Yathish Kumar K and Vijay V S conducted different sessions as resource person of the workshop. Deekshith, Harshith and Chaithra K demonstrated the working of different machines and guided the participants for project work as Tech Gurus.
This workshop aimed at understanding and applying the latest advances in manufacturing processes. First two days of workshop focused on training the participants on the Softwares like SOLID WORKS, TINKERCAD, ART CAM, CREALITY, LIGHT BURN etc. which is primarily used to create design of the model or product to be developed. Third and fourth day of the workshop was dedicated to hands on training and model building using 3D printer, 3D scanner, Laser cutting machine and CNC wood router machine respectively. The workshop was organized in project based learning (PBL) model and the participants successfully demonstrated their skill by building a project on the last day of the FDP.
The valedictory session was organized after completion of project by different teams on the last day of the five days workshop. Dr Shreeranga Bhat, HOD, department of Mechanical engineering presented the certificates to all the participants during the program and appreciated the efforts put by the participants in making a meaningful project to showcase the skillset learnt during the workshop.
