Mangaluru: St Aloysius University celebrates Women’s Day 2026

Mangaluru, Mar 13: The Al-Empower HR Forum of the department of Social Work, School of Arts and Humanities, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with the NCC Wings Corps, organized a programme titled ‘Empowered Women, Empower the World’ on March 10 in Saanidhya Hall as part of the International Women’s Day celebration.

The programme was graced by Geetha D Kulkarni, assistant commissioner of Police (ACP), City Crime Records Bureau (CCRB), Mangaluru, as the chief guest. Geetha D Kulkarni, spoke extensively about various legal provisions and acts that protect the rights and safety of women. She began the session by explaining the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and its transition to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). She highlighted several important laws that safeguard women.

She also spoke about institutions that work for the welfare of women and children, such as the State Commission for Women, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, and the National Commission for Women. Geetha D Kulkarni further explained Article 14 of the Constitution of India, which ensures equality before the law and prohibits discrimination based on race, religion, or caste.

In addition, she addressed the issue of cybercrime, explaining the various methods used in cyber offences and the precautions individuals should take to prevent becoming victims of such crimes. She concluded the session by emphasizing the importance of maintaining good health and overall well-being, encouraging students to prioritize both physical and mental health.

A felicitation ceremony was then held to honour Geetha D Kulkarni, assistant commissioner of police, CCRB, Mangaluru, in recognition of her service and contributions. Following this, Dr Vidya Vinutha D’Souza, assistant dean of School of Arts and Humanities and the Forum coordinator was felicitated for her contributions to the forum and for the awards and recognitions that she has received in the recent past.

Fg Offr Dr Alwyn Misquith, associate NCC officer welcomed the gathering, Dr Shwetha Rasquinha, head of the Social work Department gave her message and Dr Vidya Vinutha D’Souza, Forum coordinator proposed vote of thanks. The event was also attended by Dr Loveena Lobo, director, Maffei Block, Dr Rose Veera D’Souza, dean, School of Arts and Humanities and Najeeb the student coordinator along with the students of the Al-Empower HR Forum and the NCC Wings Corps. Neeradha was the MC of the event.
