Mysore: English Groom, Swedish Bride, Indian Wedding!

Mysore: English Groom, Swedish Bride, Indian Wedding!

Daijiworld Media Network - Mysore

Mysore, May 18: Marriages according to Indian customs between an Indian and a foreigner may be common, but here's a couple, entirely European, who chose to tie the knot in a traditional Indian style.

On Wednesday May 18 Shiva Cave temple here was witness to a rare nuptial bonding where an Englishman married a Swedish woman according to Indian custom. Now, that's what you call globalisation!

The bride, Linah from Sweden and the groom, Mathew Ryan from England had their dream wedding on the top of the picturesque Chamundi Hills, under the shade of the Nandi statue.

Chamundeshwari temple priest Chandrashekar solemnized the wedding that was arranged by Bettada Belaga. Sri Jamunagiri Swamiji of the cave temple gave his blessings.

Mathew and Linah are bound by their common love for yoga. In fact, Mathew even teaches yoga back in England. They learnt yoga in Mysore, a city they have been visiting for the past 12 years. But it was only a couple of years back that they realized that they had more than just yoga common between them.

While on their frequent visits to Mysore, the couple would take long walks to Chamundi Hills to pray at cave temple. It was therefore a fitting venue to bind the two hearts in holy matrimony. They asked the temple priest to solemnize their wedding, and he immediately agreed.

Both have a special place for Indian culture in their hearts. The wedding saw Mathew attired in traditional Indian dhoti complete with shalya, peta and basinga, while Linah was elegance personified in a blue Mysore silk saree. The food too was vegetarian, served on plantain leaves.

The memorable wedding was witnessed by about 150 tourists and members of Bettada Belaga.

this shows everybody have their rights to choose their life, faith, profession etc....and marriages too....in what way they want to get married? Not an issue for us at all... everybody appreciated because they are foreigners. Where it would have been, if the couples were from our very own place? Any way good luck Couple..... keep up your promise ... may god bless you....

You made me proud folks. Not because you married in India with Indian culture but you deeply understood and appreciated our way of living and being part of it, to which many of us Indians take it for granted or remain unattached.

India is a great country of culture and faith and only those who appreciate it, understand the true sense of living in diversity and nature for which we are all truly made for.

There is no other country on earth
like India with such a greater diversity of culture, food, dress,
    religion, climate etc. While we
travel in India from one corner
to the other corner, then only
we could feel the great fascination of the country.

Linah and Mathew, hearty congratulations. All the best
wishes and prayers for a very happy married life.

This is a wonderful story and it makes me smile.
The bride, Linah from Sweden and the groom, Mathew Ryan from England had their dream wedding on the top of the picturesque Chamundi Hills, under the shade of the Nandi statue.
Both are in love with India, the culture, the history, the people and their overwhelming love for yoga.
They learnt yoga in Mysore and travel frequently to Mysore.
This article says both have a special place for Indian culture in their hearts.
They fulfilled their dream and Mathew Ryan married Linah according to Indian custom.
The memorable wedding was witnessed by about 150 tourists and members of Bettada Belaga.
I wish the couple the best for their life.
Their interests and their love for Indian culture, especially for yoga and their frequent visits to India and practising yoga at home will strengthen their marriage life and one can be sure they will lead a happy life.
It is my own experience being in love with India gives me happiness and curiosity and the wish to know more about India ( culture, history, politics, religions, languages and Indian literature, Konkani culture and Konkani as language).
The couple can share so much and that give them a close relationship.
Dear Linah and Mathew you have fulfilled your dream!

    Best regards
