Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Dec 13: The public education department has taken out an order to conduct annual public examination and valuation for students of fifth and eighth grade in all schools that follow state syllabus from the current academic year.

The government has taken this decision to overcome the lack of learning abilities of students and also to know the overall achievement of all schools following state syllabus.

A circular to this effect is released by the department in which it says that it is necessary to analyse learning progress, result of learning implementation by analysing similar achievement and technology by evaluation. Exams should be held at school level and after evaluation, analysis needs to be done. Necessary plan should be made to improve the teaching and learning process where there is lack of learning progress based on subjects, schools, clusters and taluks. The circular calls to undertake necessary preparations for the exams.

The government has ordered to bear the expenses of exam and maintenance expenses from the Karnataka state examinations and assessment board and not burden the students.

A minimum of 25 students should be available in one examination centre for fifth grade. If the number is less, then examination centre should be made in lower and higher primary schools within a radius of two km having necessary fundamental infrastructure. The number for eighth grade examination students should be 50 and similar arrangement needs to be done if there is shortfall of students.

The decision of conducting public exams for 5th standard students from the current academic year is not correct. The present academic year is almost coming to end and hence , issuing order for conducting public exams at this juncture will create confusion and stress among students and teachers. The department must reconsider this decision and instead, may contemplate to conduct the same on next academic year and not for this academic year.

Hear people are with old mentality. may be the people who are not able to do things, are answering in negative. Actually education in Karnataka is way back than TN, AP and Telangana. When their children are using mobile and computer, they think their kids are very advance, but when exams are held like these, they are bad. Foe information, villager are more intelligent than city kids, In these case, they can travel alone, without parents help, they need friends that's enough. Actually they should divide the kids from eight standard, By asking then what they want to do,

Conducting public exam for class five and eight would create mental stress to the student as well as it will be difficult for parents to take them to exam hall, Most of the cases public exams will be held in different exam center rather than on own school. Kids of 10 years would face difficult to find his place in new exam center as well as it would create additional stress on exam days. Kids may not be familiar with new exam center in addition to that it would difficult specially in rural areas where proper transportation facilities is limited. Parents has to take them to exam center and bring them back again. That would result more poor and rural students would not appear on exam.

In Mumbai, Education dept once decided to conduct public examination for 5th Std pupils. It was found out that some students of municipal and govt schools were not able to write their own names, hence that plan was shelved. I do not know of Karnataka students. However, I think, it is not a good decision.
