Mangaluru, Dec 14: A medical representative committed suicide at his residence in Asaigoli here on Wednesday, December 14.

The deceased is Abhilash (35), son of Asaigoli resident Jayaram Shetty.

Abhilash who had gone for a walk in the morning, had remained at home after coming back. He hanged himself with a saree inside the room when his father was sitting outside the house.

Abhilash was working through his laptop for the last one month. He had been mentally tense for the last few months and was not mingling with others. He used to wear Mala at the nearby Ayyappa Mandir to go to Sabarimala every year but did not go this year.

His father Jayaram Shetty was a tailor by profession. Jayaram had met with an accident when he was coming out of his shop at Asaigoli. He was sick for some time but had recovered and was able to walk again.

Murdered Karthik Raj was Abhilash's friend

Pajir Sudarshananagar resident Karthik Raj was murdered near Konaje Tiplapadav on August 22, 2016. Abhilash and Karthik Raj were school mates at Konaje private school and were friends. Both of them used to walk together every day and were going for gym exercises at Deralakatte gym. Abhilash had waited for Karthik on the day when Karthik was murdered and did not respond to his mobile call and had gone to the gym centre alone.

When Konaje police could not crack the murder case, they had summoned Abhilash to the police station for questioning and then let him go. Police had arrested the younger sister of Karthik Raj and her friend in the case a year after his murder.

The real cause of the suicide by Abhilash is not known. Konaje police have registered a case in this connection.
