Beltangady, Dec 17: An ancient Shivling was found in the earth below the spot where the sign of an ancient temple existed at Perla near Ujire on Friday December 16.

The villagers had arranged Ashtamangala Prashne ritual for the renovation of Sri Laxmijanardhana Temple on December 8, 9, 15 and 16 under the leadership of Nelyadi Sridhara Gore. During the ritual, Sridhara said that he is able to see a sanctorum of Lord Shiva. Later, when the earth was dug in the spot where Sridhara pointed, an ancient Shivling was found.

The Shivling is two to three feet in length with Panipeeta. It is said that the Shivling is 400 to 500 years old and it needs to be installed again.
