Beltangady: Lone tusker destroys crops in farms at Kadirudyavara

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (MS)

Beltangady, Dec 18: A lone tusker attacked the farm of Bhandaje Keenyadka Shashidhara Paranjape of Kadirudyavara village and destroyed arecanut, coconut and banana crops.

The inmates of the house who came to know of the tusker attack made sounds to scare the pachyderm back to the forest. This managed to prevent more damage. Later the tusker went to a nearby farm and then moved to Valambra via the pond.

An operation is on to send the wild elephant back to the forest since a week in the Chibidre and Thotattadi areas.

The team conducting the operation had seen a lone tusker. The team chased it and it ran towards the national highway and Mritunjaya river. However, till the evening of Saturday, the tusker was not sighted by the operation team. There is a possibility that there is a herd of elephants at Malla part of Malavanthige, say fourest sources.

I love all animals...my favorite animal especially is Elephants. There was no better choice or what? Young ones of all the animals are lovely, to play with. Especially, Puppies, kittens, chicks, Rabbits, even pigling, baby lamb, calf. I experienced all these animals during my childhood. As the times passed hobbies also took a new shape!

Really elephants, if they come to farms and fields, they destroy crops and trees. But, they are very intelligent. One time a herd of elephants in Tamilnadu, fully destroyed about 300 banana trees, but did not touch one. It was found that there was a nest on that banana tree and inside the nest were small baby birds. I have a relative from Assam and she says that their house is near Bhutan border and herds of wild elephants frequently pass through their home and sometimes sleep near their house after their bellies are full. She said no loss is made to them.
