Beltangady, Dec 23: A mini bus, the driver of which lost control as the brakes failed, veered off road and landed in a bush. Many were injured in the accident and the condition of two is said to be serious. The mishap occurred near Ullaltikatte.

It is said that the bus contained pilgrims going to Shabarimala from Koodlagi taluk of Ballari district. In total, 21 passengers were in the bus. It is learnt that brake failure was the reason for the mishap.

The spot where the accident took place is a dangerous downward slope and the driver of the bus showed presence of mind and drove it into a roadside bush. There is a deep gorge on one side and an electricity pole on the other. Even slight error would have resulted into a major tragedy.

Mundaje gram panchayt members Ganesh Bangera, Jagadish Naika and social worker Sachin Bhide, along with other locals shifted the injured to the hospital.

Four ambulances arrived on the spot and the injured were admitted to various hospitals. Beltangady traffic police undertook the rescue operation.
