Daijiworld Media Network - Toronto

Toronto, May 25: Mangalorean origin talent Dahlia Fernandes is all set to make her native proud for come Friday May 27 it's the release of her debut music video featuring her single Tomorrow Tonight at Alleycatz Live Jazz Bar here.

As reported earlier in Daijiworld.com, Fernandes did become the winner of a contest hosted by Mississauga-based TLA Productions. The company had invited singers to upload a song on YouTube and submit the link to its contest page for a chance to win a fully-produced music video valued at $5,000. Fernandes with 5,800 hits for Tomorrow Tonight was
declared the winner by TLA Productions’ award-winning director and cinematographer, Tom Antos.

Fernandes feels that it is a great day for her. Along with unveiling of her music video, she has an opportunity to perform her next single, Jump. This talented 28-year-old says that when she came to Canada with family in 1998, she had no clue that music would take her places. At age seven, she sang From a Distance, popularized by Bette Midler, in front of hundreds of people in her native India. By the time she was 10, Fernandes wrote her first song – and she has never stopped, even
when her family moved to Dubai. Now, she has over two decades of singing to her credit.

Further, she has formed her own band, The Sounds of Dahlia with performances at various venues and events including the Westin Prince Hotel as well as with the band, Lady Kane, at Alleycatz Lounge as lead vocalist. I love writing my own songs which is “soul R&B with a little jazz element.”, she quips.

Toni Braxton, Alicia Keys and Norah Jones are artistes who have had an influence on her.

Music serves as a language of its own. Music creates a bonding between the singers and listeners. Music enhances our cultural values and also connects people of all ethnic backgrounds.

It is a pride to learn that Ms.Dahlia Fernandes hails from our own society and has risen to musical glory from a young age. If and when we meet Dahlia any time we would request her to sing Bette Midler song, our favourite of all.

We wish Dahlia best of success in her future musical performances. One day she should visit India with her band group and share with us some of her talents and abilities.
