Kuwait, May 28: Like-minded people from North Kanara under the guidance of Sr Carmel Ann gathered together at the Carmel School basement to form a first-ever Konkani speaking North Kanara Association in Kuwait on Friday May 27.
The event started with a formal introduction by compere of the day Vanessa and Alex, followed by lighting of lamp by Sam Alphonso and his wife, Sr Maria Lytta, Sr Carmel Ann and Joseph D’Souza.
Sr Carmel Ann read the message from bishop of Karwar Rev Derrick Fernandes. A prayer was led by Grace Fernandes along with hymns by Sera Alphonso and Aldrich Fernandes.
Sr Carmel Ann welcomed the gathering. Lady Sam Alphonso asked the gathering to be part of the association and lend a helping hand in good work.
She also asked everyone to remain grounded despite reaching a higher level. Don't forget the past days, she added.
Ramona Fernandes explained the purpose and formally announced the formation of the new association "North Kanara Association of Kuwait". This covers people from places like Karwar, Sirsi, Mundgod, Haliyal, Jorda, Siddapur, Ankola, Bhatkal, Dandeli, Yellapur, Kumta and Honnavar.
A short cultural programme was arranged in which Sera Alphonso, Arron Alphonso, Andrea D’Souza and Adrich Fernandes sung selected English numbers. Diego Borges, Alex and Johnny entertained the crowd with Konkani songs. A Konkani skit ‘Kazar Muje’ was staged by Mclean, Santhosh, Marshal, Ashu, Sheetal, Wilson and Blossom.
A housie-housie game too was played to keep the audience entertained. Joseph D’Souza thanked the gathering. The well-arranged programme concluded with delicious lunch.
