Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district journalists’ conference held

Mangaluru, Jan 3: “The contribution of journalists towards the development of society is the greatest. Media works as a bridge between government and commoners,” said Prakash Shetty, MD of MRG group.

Shetty was speaking after inaugurating the district conference of Dakshina Kannada Journalists' Association that was held at Town Hall in the city. Shetty also said that the journalists have backed me in my development and they have contributed in a great way for the progress of industry.

Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “I am aware of the demand for a site for journalists. I will speak to the revenue minister and try to get the same done.” Kateel asked the journalists to cooperate in the development of Dakshina Kannada district.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA U T Khader said, “There is a brotherly relationship between the journalists and politicians. Media is successfully carrying out the work of building a mature society."

The programme was presided over by Sadashiv Shenoy, president of Karnataka Media Academy. He said, “Journalism has a great history. The journalists of Dakshina Kannada have taken this forward and are a model to the society.”

MLA Vedavyasa Kamath released the book ‘Kaveri Theerada Payana’ by journalist Vikram Kantikere. The photography exhibition was inaugurated by

MLA Dr Bharath Shetty. Entrepreneur Sambashiva Rao distributed sports equipment to children of Bejai-Kapikad Anganwadi.

Patla Sathish Shetty of Patla foundation flagged off the cultural programme of journalists. Gurme Suresh Shetty flagged off the eco-friendly scheme.
Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik extended good wishes. Mayor Jayanand Anchan, vice chancellor of Mangalore University Prof P S Yedapadithaya, Gayathri of Bank of Baroda, Ronce Bantwal of Mumbai Kannada Journalists' Association, senior journalists Manohar Prasad, Ravindra Shetty, members of executive committee of journalists Jagannath Shetty Bala, Ibrahim Adkasthala, Ramakrishna R, Annu Mangaluru, Mohammed Arif, Bhaskar Rai Katta and Pushparaj B N were present on the dais.

Srinivas Nayak Indaje, president of the association gave the introductory speech. Chief secretary Jeetendra Kundeshwar proposed a vote of thanks. P B Harish Rai compered the programme.

Before the inauguration, the guests were brought to the dais in an attractive procession. Newspaper, magazine logo and holy scriptures of various religions were kept in the palanquin and brought to the dais accompanied by the music from chende drums, trumpets and other instruments.
