Bengaluru, Jan 5: Leaders of Billava community from the coastal region called on Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai at his residence in Bengaluru on Thursday and demanded setting up of the Narayana Guru Development Corporation for the community.
The delegation was led by State Energy Minister V Sunil Kumar.
State BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs Raghupati Bhat, Hartalu Halappa and Billava community swamijis were part of the delegation.
The Mysore Electrical Industries presented a cheque for Rs 1.55 crore as dividend to the Chief Minister.
Minister V Sunil Kumar, MEI Chief K Udayakumar Shetty, Managing Director G Sheela, General Manager T R Prakash and others were present.
Solatium to accident victims
The Chief Minister announced a solatium of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of six persons who died in a road mishap while on their way to have darshan of Yellamma in Saudatti of Belagavi district in the early hours of Thursday.
The government will also bear the medical expenses of those injured in the mishap, the Chief Minister said mentioning that he was in contact with the district administration and also instructed to probe the mishap.
Dedication of Ten-lane highway
Asked about the dedication of the Bengaluru-Mysuru Express Corridor road despite lacunae found out during the aerial survey of this highway, Bommai said it would be dedicated only after the completion of work.
"I will take this decision after a meeting with Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari who is inspecting the highway today,’’ he said.
The Chief Minister later inaugurated the Kayaka Janotsava 2023 programme being held by the Chitradurga Jagadguru Sri Machideva Mahasamsthana Mutt, Vishwa Machideva Seva Pratisthan.
Former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, minister Govind M Karjol, MLAs Thippa Reddy, Poornima Srinivas and Dr Sri Basava Machideva Swamiji were present.
