Kadaba: Youth beaten up for roaming with minor girl of another community

Kadaba, Jan 6 (IANS): A youth was allegedly thrashed and handed over to police for wandering with a minor Hindu girl near a pilgrimage centre in Dakshina Kannada district on Friday in Karnataka.

According to police, the incident took place at the pilgrimage centre Kukke Subramanya in the taluk. The youth, identified as Afeed from Kallugundi, has been admitted to a hospital.

A group of people had attacked the youth, when they saw him with the girl at the bus stop of Kukke Subramanya. They followed them till Kumaradhara and then attacked him.

Subramanya police station personnel have registered a case on the complaint by the victim. The father of the girl had also lodged a complaint against him and the police have filed a case under the POCSO Act against him.

    Remove the communal angle and see this transaction strictly from the lens of law. it’s a grave crime to groom a minor girl/boy into relationship. Day in and day out you see these underage romances blooming almost everywhere. In most cases the man/boy has attained and crossed the age of 18. The problem here is much larger than we think. As a practice, men are hardly thought about the age of consent; there is no attempt made by parents/teachers etc to draw that distinction of age for certain ‘activities’. Therefore, be it a man of any religion, romancing/grooming an underage girl doesn’t really seem like a crime. And they learn their lesson the hard way! Anybody thinking or indulging in Paedophilia must be bought to justice, and in Indian context, under the POSCO Act. There should also be a larger debate on offering sex education to our teens.

    My question is why they don't beat the girls in front of public. I think inside of beating boys, better to hand over to the Police. And they must beat girls, so that the girls and their parents will be alert.

    Its a crime to have relationship with minor girls under 18 years of age. Its a crime and the man who took this girl to destroy must be punished under POSCO act

    oye, Mr Kulai village, girl's father has complained (what is the nature of complaint not reported in the news), based on which POCSO has been slapped on the man. Further you seem to think that any thing less than rape with a woman is not offence... btw how you will react if a grown up man takes your minor daughter around town without your permission...
