Mangaluru: Death of labourer due to hillside collapse – Case filed, supervisors arrested

Mangaluru, Jan 16: Police have filed a case of negligence on Ramachandra, a contractor of Andhra Pradesh origin, Mohan Vishnu Naika, supervisor on site and Nagaraja Narayana Naika, in relation to the death of labourer during construction of retainer wall near Chelyaru railway bridge near Surathkal on January 12.

It is accused that the contractor and supervisors did not take any safety precautions for the labourers though they knew that there are chances of mud getting slid during the passing of the train on the bridge.

All three arrested were produced before court. The court sent them to judicial custody.

Out of the 12 labourers who were working at the time of the mishap, labourer Obeleshappa died while Govindappa, Sanjeeva and his wife Trupti alias Rekha sustained injuries.

    Incidents like this put onus on workplace safety... Every life is precious and has a story to tell... We must not be the reason to cut that story short... Many workplace precautions are basic and easily understandable common sense items... Here laborers were subjected to dynamic situation of huge train movement... Vertical cut excavations are very fragile and need to be stepped or slanted to play safe with angle of repose... Sad to read about easily preventable loss of lives...

    Here the contractor is booked. But in gujrat the negligence which led to bridge collapse and death of 40 people most of it children, bjp govt books case against ticket vendors. The govt knows that even education to people is useless in front of feeding hate to public.

    in third world countries where manuvada prevails...the labour class is not taken into account at all..their life is so cheap...some thousands will change hands and the case will be closed for ever...
