Mangalore: MCC Gears Up to Face Monsoon's Fury

Mangalore, Jun 2: “A special task force has been formed by the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to respond to emergency situations in the wards during the rainy season and in flood-like situations. One special team will function from MCC and another from Surathkal”, said Praveen, Mayor, MCC, while addressing presspersons on Wednesday June 1.

Commissioner Dr K N Vijayprakash said that work on silt removal from road side drains and 64 large drains has already been carried out with the help of the health and engineering department.

“The special task force, which will function even during the night, will be headed by an engineer who will supervise. Help has also been sought from the Home Guards. The fisheries department has been asked to provide a team of swimming experts in any emergency, and they have also agreed to provide boats with the team. MESCOM has been asked to prune the branches of trees that are posing a danger as they are close to electric wires”, he added.
 
Deputy mayor Geetha Nayak, was also present.

Speaking on the sidelines, the Commissioner said that bus bays will come up in the city at a cost of Rs 5 crore and when media persons drew attention about the silence of ‘Tiger’ when it concerns particular areas in the city, he said that he was not aware of this matter and it would be looked into.
Addressing the matter of badly maintained bus shelters in the city, he said that many of the bus stands are meant for advertisement purposes for private entities and it will be sorted out soon after discussions with the concerned.
