Abu Dhabi, Jun 3 (IANS/WAM): The United Arab Emirates government has clarified that the country imports most of the cucumber it consumes from outside the European Union (EU).
Of the total cucumber import in the country, 98 percent comes from outside the European Union (EU), with only two percent coming from the economic bloc, said Ministry of Foreign Trade (MOFT), UAE.
According to the data of the ministry released Thursday, the two European countries that the UAE imports cucumbers are Spain and Holland, with no such imports from Germany or Denmark, which are the two countries that the Ministry of Environment and Water has imposed a temporary cucumber imports ban on.
The ban has been imposed as a precautionary measure that was taken based on information that some EU countries are suffering from an "E-Coli" Bacteria outbreak in some of their produce.
