Beltangady, Feb 5: An auto rickshaw fell into the river after the driver lost control of the vehicle. A woman passenger in the autorickshaw was killed as a result.

Sefiya (57), a resident of Chibidre Kattarigudde near Kakkinje, is the deceased. Mariamma (23), Mohammed Ashraf (35) and rickshaw driver Aboobacker Siddique (21) are the injured.

The accident occurred when the passengers who had gone to attend Uroos programme in Khajoor were returning home. The auto rickshaw fell into Mrityunjaya river from Kaup Chadavu where the bund does not have any fencing. The three injured fell out of the auto rickshaw into the valley before it fell into the river. However, Sefiya fell into the river along with the auto rickshaw and Sefia drowned.

Shamsu Gandhinagar and Shiraj Chibidre, who came to know about the accident, got down into the valley housing the river, brought out the mortal remains of Sefia and also helped the three injured people out of the gorge.

This is the third accident on the same spot in the past one month. Immediately mud mounds were placed on the side of the dangerous spot.

Sefiya was the sister of journalist Ashraf Alikunhi Mundjae. As soon as the news spread, MLA Harish Poonja offered his condolences. Former MLA K Vasantha Bangera and KPCC secretary Shivaram visited the hospital.

A case in this connection is registered in Beltangady police station.

Leaders divide but sane people always have the mind to consider people as human instead of treating them as a person of xyz religion. This is what we were and where we have to be.

A sad case. Note that the rickshaw driver Aboobacker Siddique is just 21 years old. At this age, a person loves speed. And loses control of the vehicle. When hiring a vehicle, make sure the driver is at least 30 years of age. Then there is a good chance of reaching the destination without injury or worse.
