Kundapur, Feb 10: Sea walk at Kodi attracts tourists from far off places. The sea walk that was constructed at break water to Panchagangavali has turned into tourist attraction now. Such a wide sea walk is not there throughout coastal line of Karnataka. Saturday and Sunday, festive mood is seen at Kodi sea walk.
The tourism department however, is not keeping pace with the development of Kodi. Basic infrastructures like washrooms and vehicle parking area is missing. The tourists are forced to use toilets of hotels or nearby houses. This causes embarrassment for many tourists. Parking of vehicles is another issue. Vehicles have to be parked on sand dunes. There is plenty of government land available, which can be converted into parking lots.
Steps and chairs are already donated by kind-hearted donors and local organizations. CCTV monitoring is also done. However, the tourism department has to take initiative to further develop this sea walk area.
The government is mulling to construct a tree park. If tree park is built till light house, it will attract more tourists. Many mainly visit Kodi sea walk for boating. Around eight km of sea journey is undertaken. Tourists can see rare scenes like Mangrove forest, Dolphin point and Rock Island. There are eight to nine boats at present. There is huge demand for boating. Dolphin Point and Mangrove forest are the main attractive points of Kodi sea walk.
Nagaraja Kanchan, nominated member of town municipality says, “Kodi sea walk is getting popular day-by-day. In 2019, I began boating. Then there was only one boat. Now we have nine boats. Toilets need to be built here. Vehicle parking issue also needs to be addressed. Facilities need to be created for tourists arriving from outstation states and districts.”
