Udupi, Feb 14: ‘Cow Hug Day’ was organized on the occasion of Valentine’s Day at Sri Umamaheshwari temple at Shivapadi, Manipal. Recently, the Animal Welfare Board of union government had taken out a circular to observe February 14 as Cow Hug Day and later withdrew the same.
Cow pooja was held at the temple on February 14. Speaking on the occasion, Prakash Kukkehalli, chief of the temple, said, “Valentine’s Day is a culture of western countries. This is celebrated as day of lovers throughout the globe. Valentine’s Day is nothing but celebration of an incident of violation of a king’s order. In India also, lots of youth are celebrating the same. The Modi government decided to celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug Day. In coming years it will be celebrated officially.”
Saraswati Barithaya, mother of MLA Raghupati Bhat and Mahesh Takur, president of trust of the temple were present.
From February 22 to March 5, mammoth Athirudra Yaga will be held at the temple.
