Washington, Jul 17: Indian-origin billionaire and Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy has intensified his criticism of New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, alleging that the 33-year-old politician’s “radical left” ideology could strip the city of its foundational values.
Ramaswamy, who is contesting for the governor’s post in Ohio in 2026, accused Mamdani of championing anti-capitalist policies that pose a threat to New York's identity. Recalling his own time in the city, Ramaswamy said, “I moved to New York in 2007 after college because it celebrated ambition and success. That spirit is now fading, and under Mamdani, it could vanish altogether.”
The Republican leader said he is working to revive the American Dream in Ohio, offering the midwestern state as a fresh ground for prosperity and growth. A recent billboard that appeared in Times Square, urging people to “flee” Mamdani’s ideology and “move to Ohio,” sparked widespread reactions. The campaign was backed by Vivek’s political group, VPAC (Victors, Not Victims).
In a strongly worded column published in the New York Post, Ramaswamy urged Americans to focus on Mamdani’s political views instead of his background, saying, “The issue isn’t his race or religion—it’s his policies.”
Highlighting the divisive rhetoric on both ends of the political spectrum, Ramaswamy said he too has faced online abuse, often being told to “go home” whenever he shares his opinions.
Once a presidential hopeful, Ramaswamy is now shaping his gubernatorial campaign around economic freedom, education, and self-reliance—urging voters to reject the rise of what he terms “radical socialism.”
