Mangaluru: DoT devises new method to block stolen or lost mobile phone handsets

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (SS)

Mangaluru, Feb 15: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has devised a new method to block mobile phone handsets which have been either stolen or lost.

As soon as a mobile phone user loses his handset he can register a complaint on the KSP e-lost application and obtain an e-acknowledgement immediately.

The user should then obtain a duplicate SIM from the service provider. The user has to then switch on the phone to get an OTP and then submit details regarding the lost or stolen handset on www.ceir.gov.in. As soon as the details are given, the stolen or lost handset gets blocked within 24 hours.

If the handset is found, the user can login to CEIR portal and unblock the device before using it again. Even if the police station is contacted, the handset gets blocked via CEIR portal and when the phone is found it can be unblocked.

IMEI number of the handset is important for this to take place. Owner of the device should have prior information on IMEI Number

This is a good thing... though less experienced in coastal areas Bangalore, Mysore areas have bike borne thieves scheming for loosely held cell phones... They have a network and it is an organized crime... Targets are mainly casually walking women and girls... Sometimes elders also are targeted... they are helped by some mobile shops to wipe and flush the phone into new... Cool money of 5000 and above they get ... Not bad if the shikaar is only one per day...
