Udupi, Jun 30: A complaint has been lodged at the Shirva police station after unidentified persons allegedly drove away without paying for diesel worth Rs 4,711 at an Indian Oil fuel station in Kurkal village of Udupi district.
According to the complaint filed by Ashish Karkada, manager of Kurkal filling station, the incident occurred at around 9.20 pm on June 27. A white Ford EcoSport car reportedly arrived at the fuel station and requested a full tank of diesel. After the fuel was filled, the occupants asked the staff to generate the bill. However, while the bill was being prepared, they allegedly sped away from the station without making the payment.

The unpaid fuel bill amounted to Rs 4,711.09.
Based on the observations of the fuel station staff, there were three young individuals inside the vehicle. They were reportedly speaking fluent Tulu and claimed to be from Kumta, though the complainant stated that this information appeared to be incorrect. The staff also suspected that the occupants were under the influence of alcohol, as a beer bottle and chip packets were allegedly seen inside the vehicle. The car also had black-tinted windows.
The fuel station management informed the police that CCTV footage of the incident is available. However, the vehicle's registration number could not be clearly identified due to the distance, bright headlights, and camera angle.
The complaint further states that an internal verification found no involvement of the fuel station staff and that the offence was allegedly committed by unidentified persons.
A case has been registered at the Shirva police station, and further investigation is underway.
