Kundapur, Feb 24: Thekkate Junction has become an accident zone due to unscientific works carried out on NH66 at the Thekkatte circle. Many loss of lives have occurred here. People have got injured and admitted to hospital for no fault of theirs. Some of them have even lost control over their organs. There are others who have spent lacs of rupees to get themselves treated in the hospitals. People have been cursing the National Highway Authority of India and the Navyug Company which is executing the contract to lay the highway.

A series of accidents have taken place since the day work on the highway began. Lack of proper research and unscientific decisions of the engineers have made the locals suffer.

The concerned have not even erected a high mast lamp pole at the circle. Thekkatte Highway department and the company which is executing the contract have not laid the service road but have come up with an excuse that it is a rural road. Therefore, vehicles are driven in the other lane resulting in accidents.

There is a government school at Thekkatte. But, there is no zebra crossing or pedestrian markings anywhere close to the school to help the students cross the road. The decisions of the grama sabha meetings have been ignored. The locals who have remained patient so far have warned of indefinite protests.
