Mangaluru, Feb 25: St Agnes College (Autonomous), department of zoology and women cell in collaboration with ICYM Central Council Mangalore diocese and Mercy Beauty Academy organised ‘Beautiful Lengths, a hair donation drive on Saturday February 25 at St Agnes College.

The women's week inauguration started with the hair donation drive programme.

Addressing the gathering, assistant professor of medical oncology, Kanachur Medical College, Dr Najeeb Behzad Mohammed said, “Donating hair can save lives. Many a times, due to fear of hair loss or the effect of treatment, patients hesitate to take treatment. When there is any sort of treatment for cancer, there will be myths and misunderstanding about the treatment. It is very difficult for people to be convinced after whatever they read on social media regarding cancer. The disease is curable when detected very early and with the right treatment.”

Principal St Agnes College, Dr M Venissa AC said, “Hair is beauty and pride of a woman. Donating it will give someone a second chance to live. If we receive and engage in giving, our life will be worthwhile.”

President ICYM Anil John Sequeira was also present.

Coordinator women’s cell Vishma D’Cunha welcomed the gathering and head of department of zoology Ameetha K rendered the vote of thanks.

Kudos to St Agnes College for hair donation drive. Yes, it does help lot of patients who have lost hair due to various treatment. Donation of long hair is very common in Western and North American countries. I heard it for the first time in Mangalore/India. Great job. Thank you to all who donated their beauty to share with the unfortunate. God Bless you all.

Hair itself is beautiful. It enhances your beauty or looks. That doesn't mean that bald persons are ugly. Its a noble thing to donate it.The hair will come back on its own. This is a gesture of kindness.
