Kundapur, Mar 1: The country has celebrated its 75th anniversary of independence, but basic facilities are only an illusion for the people of this village. The residents’ pleas to everybody that they come across have become futile. This is the condition of people of Madamakki village, about 55 kilometres away from Kundapur, on Kundapur Someshwar road.
Kuntamakki, Karimane, Hamja, and Edamale areas are the side hills of forests affected by naxal menace. Though several lac worth naxal package is announced for it, officials and elected representatives have done nothing to solve the issues here.
More than 300 people live here. More than 100 children go to school. They have to go to Belve primary health centre situated 16 kilometres away if they fall sick. As many as 15 houses here do not have the title deeds. The road transport over here is pathetic. There is also the menace of wild animals.
The elderly people and the pregnant women are covered, rolled in blankets and manually carried in case of health issues. The gram and taluk panchayat officials are reportedly doing nothing to solve problems here. The promises made during the previous elections have remained only on paper. Therefore, the villagers have warned that they will boycott elections this time. They say that they do not want assurances but only implementations.
Only time will tell if the concerned people wake up at least after ‘election boycott’ threat from the villagers of Madamakki.
