Mangaluru: Mother, 4-year-old daughter die by suicide, reason for extreme step unknown

Mangaluru, Mar 1: In a shocking incident that occurred at Kodialguthu under Barke police station limits in the city, a mother hanged her two daughters and killed herself. By providence, one of the daughters managed to loosen the noose and escaped certain death.

Vijaya (33) and Shobika (4) lost their lives, while another daughter, a 12-year-old, managed to loosen the noose.

Vijaya’s husband had killed himself recently for some reason. Vijaya and her two daughters were living together after the death of her husband. On Wednesday afternoon, Vijaya put both her daughters in one noose and also put noose around her neck and hooked to the fan. The elder daughter escaped as she could place her legs on the side of TV table. She ran out of the house and alerted the neighbours. However, when the neighbours arrived, both Vijaya and younger daughter Shobika had breathed their last.

City police commissioner Kuldeep R Jain and local corporator Sudhir Kumar Kannur visited the house.

Barke police are investigating further.
