Channarayapatna (Hassan), Mar 2: Bengaluru Rural MP D K Suresh has urged the people of Hassan district to extend their full support to his brother and KPCC president D K Shivakumar to become the next chief minister of Karnataka.

Addressing the Prajadhwani Yatra at Channarayapatna in Hassan district, Suresh said his brother Shivakumar has performed excellently in different departments and has ensured that the State becomes self-sufficient in energy production and ensured that the farmers got free power for irrigation pumpsets.

“It is time for the people to bring about a change in the coming assembly elections by bringing Congress party to power and giving Shivakumar a chance to rule the State,’’ he said.

Suresh pointed out that the electorate of Channarayapatna have blessed JD(S) twice and assured that the Congress party will give a clean, efficient and development oriented government instead of electing only one family for all posts, he said attacking the JD(S) and Deve Gowda family for indulging in corruption like the BJP.

He mentioned that there have been six applicants for tickets from the Congress party from the constituency and appreciated the unanimous decision of all the aspirants to work unitedly for the chosen candidate.

“People have made Deve Gowda as Prime Minister and Chief Minister while his son H D Kumaraswamy has been made chief minister. Give one chance to Shivakumar this time,’’ he said.

KPCC Chief Shivakuamar said the Congress will look after the interests of the farmers and said the party will implement all its promises and guarantees.

In the past, there were about 2000 contractors in the district and now hardly a few have survived. “It is for you people to find out who is responsible for the situation and do something about it,’’ he said without naming the Deve Gowda family.

Without mentioning the name of JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, who represents the constituency, the KPCC chief said he is not interested in criticising or abusing the MLA or speak about the 40% commission demanded by him for government contracts in the constituency.

Shivakumar said the ruling BJP has completely failed in fulfilling its electoral promises and is carrying out rampant corruption. Though the Congress party supported JD(S) after the fractured mandate in the last elections, the party did not continue in power and collapsed.

He said the BJP poll symbol of Lotus or Kamala is best allowed to remain in the pond while JD(S) party’s symbol of corn is best left in the field. People should support the Congress symbol of hand that gives, he said.

The KPCC Chief appealed to the people to extend their wholehearted support to the Congress party and ensure that it gets elected. “Please treat me as your own son and vote for the Congress party candidates,’’ he said.
