Hyderabad, June 16 (IANS) Like Sanjay Datt in the popular Hindi film "Munna Bhai MBBS", five police officials in Andhra Pradesh got selected by making others appear for them in the qualifying examination three years ago but now find themselves behind bars.

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the state Thursday arrested five probationary sub-inspectors of police for indulging in malpractices and impersonation.

Three of them were working at different police stations in Hyderabad and two in Khammam.

According to CID officials, the five got their photographs on the hall tickets morphed with the help of the owner of a photo studio in Kodad of Nalgonda district and engaged others to give the examination. Cases of cheating, criminal conspiracy and impersonation have been filed against them.

A statement from CID office said ada Karunakar, the brain behind the scam, died of electrocution recently. Efforts were on to nab other accused, including those who wrote the exam.

Interestingly, the scam was unearthed during the investigations against nine police constables who got themselves selected by indulging in cheating and malpractices in the written tests in 2009.
