Udupi, Mar 6: Nityananda Olakadu, the chief secretary of the District Nagarika Samithi, sat on the road and protested against the digging of a concrete road from Sharada Mantapa to Beedina Gudde, which was in good condition. He argued that digging up a road in good condition was not right.
There was a heated argument between local municipal council member Girish Anchan and social activist Nityananda Olakadu regarding the matter. Two days ago, Olakadu had objected to the digging, alleging that it was a misuse of taxpayer money.
Anchan attempted to explain that the road, which was constructed 27 years ago, had lost its quality and needed to be reconstructed as it was damaged in some places during drainage construction.
However, other locals who arrived at the site claimed that the height difference between the old road and the new road would cause potholes during monsoons. Olakadu informed the municipal commissioner of the matter and threatened to complain to the Lokayuktha. The road digging process has been temporarily suspended.
