New Delhi, June 19 (IANS) Director Onir's "I AM" has been selected for the feature film line-up at the Kandy International Film Festival starting Wednesday in Sri Lanka.
"Congratulations to all of US #I AM selected at the KANDY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, SRI LANKA @Purab_Kohli @mathurarjun(sic)," Onir posted on his micro-blogging site twitter.
The director delved into multiple topics and wove four different stories about the plight of Kashmiri pandits, gay issues, paedophelia and single motherhood in his people-funded movie. A host of stars like Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala, Nandita Das, Purab Kohli, Rahul Bose and two well-known directors - Anurag Kashyap and Anurag Basu - made the film an interesting watch with their brilliant performances.
Apart from "I AM", another Indian director's film selected for the festival is Murali Nair's "Virgin Goat", an Indo-French project, which stars the talented Rahguveer Yadav.
The line-up of movies also includes French film "Fleurs du Mal" by David Dusa, Bangladeshi director Rubaiyat Hossain's "Meherjaan", Tanzanian director Sherman Ong's "Memories of a Burning Tree" and Thai film "Mundane History" by director Anocha Suwichakornpong.
The five-day celebration of global cinema will take place at numerous venues in Kandy, highlighting the work of both emerging and well-established filmmakers from around the world, bringing together artists, international directors and celebrities.
In addition to the screenings, the event will have workshops with filmmakers.
