Udupi/Mangaluru, Mar 19: There is a possibility of drinking water scarcity during the end of March in the twin districts. Supply of water through tankers has already begun to some hotels, restaurants and marriage halls in the city areas.

District administrations have held meetings to manage the situation and given instructions to taluk level officers. Information has been sought of the areas that might face acute shortage of drinking water in the coming days.

Drinking water scarcity is likely to crop up in many villages of Karkala, Kundapura, Byndoor, Hebri, Kaup, Brahmavara and Udupi taluks at the end of March. Zilla panchayat has made the list of 27 areas that are getting ready to face the situation.

In Dakshina Kannada district, water scarcity is likely to hit Balepuni, Narikombu, Konaje, Talapady and Manjanady areas according to a survey  conducted by zilla panchayat. MCC limits, Mulki, Moodbidri and Someshwara areas are also likely to face water shortage.

At present priority is not being given to supply water through tankers. Deepening of borewells and flushing is being carried out by zilla panchayats. Efforts are made to increase underground water levels.

Dr Kumar, zilla panchayat CEO of Udupi said, “There is no dearth of grants to supply water to rural areas. Separate grants will be given from 15th Finance Commission also. Instructions have also been given to taluk and grama panchayats to effectively manage water resources and prevent hardships to public.”

Water scarcity in March. No clean toilets. No regular garbage collection and disposal. Newly built express highways are clogged with over night light rains. City and suburban roads are in pathetic condition. No safety for tourists especially women most likely to be raped with deteriorating law and order situation. Every now and then protests and Bundhs. Only Jatka meat to be consumed subject to checked and verified by moral police. In some states beef is legal and some states beef is illegal in the same Hindutva govt country. Broken and vandalised minority holy places for tourists to visit, but we are on Double engine development of Double engine govt to become Smart City, a touristic hub and $ 5 Tr economy.

Result of converting this once upon a beautiful city into nothing but a concrete city now. What a foolish world we live in where we chop off trees, convert green parks into concrete ones and then call the entire community as smart. Sad part is cos of this foolishness now everyone will suffer including the poor animals, birds and trees as well.
