Mangaluru: Team eSJEC racing of St Joseph Engineering College win ATVC 2023 championship

Mangaluru, Mar 25: St Joseph Engineering College is an autonomous institution under Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, and is recognized by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

It was established in 2002. SJEC has founded various technical as well as non-technical clubs and has helped in fostering the student’s skills and knowledge and motivating them to achieve higher aspects in life.

 

Team eSJEC racing is one such professional group comprising of 27 students from various departments which was formed in March 2019 under the SAEINDIA SJEC Collegiate Club. For this year Yathish Kumar, Ashwin Shetty and Joel D’mello were the faculty co- ordinators guiding the team. Clifford Noronha and Russel D'Souza from final year mechanical were the captain and vice-captain for this season team eSJEC racing as a team participates in various student-level competitions against teams from across India in designing an off-road, all-terrain vehicle. One among the competitions was the ATVC 2023 which was held in Pune.

ATVC, or the Aravalli Terrain Vehicle Championship, is one of the most grueling and demanding off-road events in India. The championship is renowned for its unforgiving track, which puts the skills and knowledge of the best all-terrain vehicle designers and racers to the test. This year, the ATVC 2023 event was held from March 1- 5 in Pune and saw the participation of 34 teams from all over India.

The event began with the technical inspection of the vehicles on March 1-2, followed by a series of rigorous tests, including a brake test, acceleration test, maneuverability test, suspension and traction test, and a sledge pull test on the March 3- 4. Finally, the championship culminated with an endurance race on the March 5. Despite facing numerous breakdowns during the competition, SJEC vehicle, emerged victorious and claimed the championship trophy for ATVC 2023. The vehicle passed the technical inspection, acceleration test, brake test, and endurance test on the very first attempt, showcasing the skills and dedication of Team eSJEC racing.
