Hydrabad, Jun 25: The officials of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested Telugu film producer Simgamala Ramesh, an accused in many fraud cases, in Chennai on Friday June 24.
Ramesh is a close associate of Bhanu Kiran, prime suspect in the faction leader Maddelacheruvu Suri's murder case.
The CID said Ramesh has allegedly cheated financier Vijayanthi Reddy of Rs 14.69 crore.
Additional director general of police (CID) S V Ramana Murthy informed the media that Ramesh borrowed Rs 14.69 crore from the Reddy couple which he failed to pay back. When they insisted, he called them to the Balaji Colour Labs at Film Nagar, where he, with the help of Bhanu Kiran, threatened to kill the couple if they continued asking for the money.
Ramesh also conned Mohammed Ashraf, the managing partner of Shalimar Video company by promising to give him VCD and DVD rights of 'Komarampuli' movie, CID officials said.
The officials questioned him in Chennai and searched his various houses. He will be brought to Hyderabad on transit warrant.
He will be presented in a court in Chennai.
