Mumbai, Jun 27: Denying the report that Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma was detained by Mumbai Customs on Monday June 27 at Mumbai airport, her spokesperson said that it was a formal verification and not interrogation. Anushka was carrying some jewellery and watches while returning from Canada after attending the IIFA awards ceremony.
Sharma was asked to sign some papers as she had brought everything as per the applicable law.
Sharma’s spokesperson criticized the media for wrongly reporting that she was interrogated by Mumbai Customs.
Minisha Lamba and Bipasha Basu were also detained recently for carry carrying undeclared jewellery.
Earlier, it was reported that many celebrities from Bollywood are taking the customs laws for granted and bringing gold, diamond, and other articles without declarations.
Speaking to a press person, a Mumbai customs official said that for them everyone was the same and they did not differentiate between celebrities and common people.
Sharma shot to fame after her debut movie with Shah Rukh Khan, Yash Raj’s `Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’. She has also worked with Shahid Kapoor in ‘Badmash Company’.
