Bengaluru, Apr 6: In the long-delayed second list of Congress party, which was finally released on Thursday, the two senior BJP leaders who had resigned their Legislative Council seats – Baburao Chinchanasur and N Y Gopalakrishna – have been accommodated. While Chinchanasur has been fielded from Gurmitkal in Kalaburgi district with N Y Gopalakrishna is the Congress candidate from Molakalmuru reserved seat for Scheduled Tribes.
Youth leader Prasad Raj Kanchan has been given the election ticket to contest from the Udupi constituency. As expected, the Congress gave the ticket to a candidate from the Mogaveera community. Prasad Raj has already started campaigning. It is said that that three names were in the final list for the Congress ticket from Udupi. Finally, Prasad Raj Kanchan was selected.
However, senior JD(S) leader and former MLA from Kadur in Chikkamagaluru district Y S V Datta, who has been considered the right hand man of JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda, has been denied the Kadur district which has been given to Congressman Anand K S.
The Badami seat held by Congress opposition leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been allotted to Bheemsen B Chimmankatti, who was elected from the constituency earlier and had become a minister. The Chamundeshwari seat in Mysuru has been allotted to Siddegowda.
There are no major surprises in the second list of 42 candidates with former minister Vinay Kulkarni from his Dharwad seat, former ministers Iqbal Ansari from Gangavati, Hullappa Meti from Bagalkot, B R Yavagal from Nargund, Kimmane Ratnakar from Thirthahalli and Santhosh Lad from Khalghatgi.
The Congress party has already released its first list of 124 candidates. With today’s second list, a total of 186 candidates have been announced by the Congress party. The remaining list of 18 candidates is yet to be announced. The JD(S) has announced its first list of 95 candidates. The ruling BJP is yet to announce its list of candidates, which may come in the next few days.
Former Chief Minister Dharam Singh’s son Vijay Dharam Singh is fielded from Basavakalyan. The Melkote seat is left for Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha for Darshan Puttannaiah, leader of the farmers.
The three candidates announced from Bengaluru are: S Balraj Gowda (Yeshwanthpur), Keshava Rajanna B (Yelahanka) and Keshava Murthy (Mahalakshmi Layout).
