Udupi, Apr 10: Putting to rest all the rumors and news reports of differences among Udupi ticket aspirants, it now seems that all the aspirants have come together to work for the party's official nominee.
On Monday, April 10, all the aspirants of the Udupi constituency came together in a meeting to discuss election campaigning and strategies for the 2023 elections. There were differences among the ticket aspirants after Prasadraj Kanchan was given the party ticket to contest from the Udupi constituency. Few news reports also indicated that these differences were hard to resolve and that they could affect the election contest. However, defying all odds, all the aspirants have now joined hands with the party's official nominee and are working for the party's win.
In a meeting held at the Congress Bhavan in Brahmagiri, Udupi, district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, block Congress president Ramesh Kanchan, vice president Prakhyath Shetty, and another aspirant Amrith Shenoy were seen together. Sources said that all of them have taken an active part in forming various committees for the election campaign.
Prasadraj Kanchan was announced as the party's official candidate by the high command for the Udupi constituency. After the announcement, there was much opposition among other aspirants, and Krishnamurthy Acharaya, one of the aspirants, has already announced that he will be contesting independently. Eight persons had filed for the Udupi constituency ticket. Among them, all the aspirants, except Krishnamurthy, are back at the Congress Bhavan, defying all the differences.
Amrith Shenoy, one of the aspirants, has publicly declared on social media that he will support the party's official nominee. In a Facebook post, Amrith Shenoy said, "I have been breathing the Congress's secular ideology for years now, and I have been a voice against communalism. My fight will continue even if I don't get the MLA-MLC seats. I will work tirelessly for the party to bring it into power, and I assure you that I will work for the party's official nominee to win."
This development is a ray of hope for the party and its workers in the Udupi district as the aspirants have understood that "united we stand, united we win." The district Congress office is buzzing with the regular movement of Congress leaders visiting the district office on a regular basis.
