Mumbai, Jul 3: The Mumbai police on Sunday July 3 made another headway into the murder case of Mid-Day journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, with the arrest of Vinod Chembur, a key suspect and an alleged aide of Chhota Rajan.
Chembur is suspected to be the man who financed and identified Dey to the shooters. He has been remanded in police custody tilll July 7. It is the 8th arrest in the case so far.
Mumbai Crime Branch on Saturday July 2 had also interrogated another Rajan aide, D K Rao, in connection with the case with the hope that he would be able to reveal the motive of the murder.
The suspects arrested so far include Rohit Thangappan alias Satish Kalia, who revealed that he was paid Rs five lac to gun down Dey.
According to police, Chhota Rajan instructed Kalia to kill Dey twenty days before the murder.
Dey was shot dead on June 11 at Powai in broad daylight by four men on two motorcycles. Dey was known for his indepth coverage of the Mumbai underworld, and had even written books on the subject.
