Bantwal: BJP worker killed in Mangaluru's Nehru Maidan, accused held

Bantwal, Apr 18: A person hailing from Polali of Bantwal taluk was murdered in Mangaluru and the accused were arrested in a swift action by the police.
 
The murdered person is identified as Janardana Barinja, a resident of Ammunje near Polali.
 
The arrested accused are identified as Prashanth (40), from Trivandrum in Kerala, Ravikumar (38), a resident of Kushalnagar, Madikeri, Vijay Cutinha (28), from Konaje and Sharath (36), a resident of Vittal in Bantwal taluk.



Janardhana Poojary was sleeping at the Nehru Maidan grounds, when the four accused asked Janardhana to give them his mobile phone. When Janardhana denied, the accused pushed him and fell six feet down. Then the accused allegedly assaulted him with hands and kicked him through their legs and took off his mobile.

A case in this connection is filed by Umesh Poojary, elder brother of deceased Janardhana at South police station of the city.

All the four accused were arrested from Muttappa Gudi vicinity near Central Railway station of the city. The mobile phone stolen by the accused in confiscated by the police.

The arrested accused have criminal background. Ravikumar is accused of murder case in Kushalnagar, while Sharath has cases of theft and looting on him and was released recently from prison. Accused Vijay Cutinha has a POCSO case registered on him at Konaje police station.

Janardhana Barinja was identified as an active worker of the BJP from Bantwal Vidhana Sabha constituency. It is said that he was a driver by profession. 

Police inspector Manjunatha m, PSIs Sheetal Alagoora, Manohara Prasad, Kumari Jyoti G, Sridhar and other personnel took part in the operation.
