Udupi: Case filed against two for obstructing police duty, calling cops 'beggars'

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Apr 23: A case has been filed against two individuals who were allegedly obstructing policemen on duty and foul-mouthing them near the Someshwara check post of Nadpalu village on the night of April 19.

According to reports, ASI Mahalinga of the Hebri police station and constables Rahmatullah, Suresh, and Haleshappa were conducting a vehicle check at the Someshwara check post around 10 pm on April 19. While inspecting vehicles, a Leyland pickup truck coming from Agumbe collided with PCs Rahmatullah and Krishna Achari due to the driver's rash and negligent driving.

When ASI Mahalinga called for an ambulance to transport the injured PCs to the hospital, he found out that the ambulance was delayed as it was in Perdoor. He then stopped a car from Agumbe and requested the two individuals inside to take the injured policemen to the hospital. However, the two individuals pushed the ASI and other personnel and verbally abused them, stating that the police live on public alms and do not have the right to stop their car. As the locals began to gather, the duo fled the scene.

Further investigation is being carried out by the Hebri police.

They can possibly file a defamation suit against the car occupants, who supposedly abused them verbally, on the grounds that their uncivilized words insulted the entire force??

I feel here who is telling truth and who is leis?Even we cant believe the Police .that people abused them like obstructing Police duty.Suppose when police wanted some help from public.public cant abuse them as beggers.Funny to know only one ambulance is around?Really when there were injured people .persons from car could take them. There is something not correct. They fled from spot as they saw police were checking the other car. Were they all from some gang ?Inquiry is needed here.

Cannot understand how the private car owners could have obstructed the cops from doing their duty as the car was just passing by and stopped by the cops for help which they refused?

Calling Cops 'beggars' is not right, however there is no obligation for public to provide a car ride. If you are husband and wife traveling in the middle of the night, would you provide a ride to a police personnel or anyone for that matter? How sure will you be he is from the police? It could be anyone. This can't be a case of 'obstructing police duty'.

It appears that the cops might have spoken roughly to the car occupants, in their haste to carry the injured for medical aid, thus provoking the car occupants to use uncivilized words!

Police must have pressurised the car occupants to carry the accident victims, which is wrong; in the melee, there could have been an heated argument and exchange of words; important to note here is police are only telling how the car occupants behaved and not what the police did to provocate them!!

pushing a cop on duty is absolute violation of law....calling them beggars on their face is not right though we all know that khaki is the most corrupt...if they dont get anything they will ask for beedi also...such crooks...but when they wear uniform we need to respect them if they respect us...

When they are on uniform they should conduct themselves in a manner that commands utmost respect to their uniform. This was one case they did so. But more often you see them resorting to extortion. Extortion on uniform negates all the respect we have to that uniform

What they said is actually true. Is there even one police personnel in Karnataka who have not taken bribe? Every police personnel I have met till now is greedy for money.

Whatever it is, either you are a criminal or complainant, police needs to do it’s duty and not be asking for money to do their duty
