Mangaluru: Dazzling lights on vehicles – Case filed against 25 drivers

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Apr 24: Traffic police of the city began operation against use of eye blinding lights on vehicles and registered cases against offenders.

In some vehicles, dazzling lights are fixed to make the vehicle look more attractive.

However, these lights create eye blindness to vehicles that arrive from the opposite side, which proves fatal in many cases.

Fixing lights that are high in brightness is against the motor vehicle rules. Police registered 25 cases against vehicle drivers including cars and buses. City police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain said that the operation will continue.

It's really frustrating during nights. These guys with their modified LED lights would drive as if they are the Only one on the road. These lights seriously affect the vision of the incoming drivers.

When will city traffic police open their eyes on the deaths of several children/youngsters occurred in the last few months? Trucks and Buses are driven as there is no tomorrow. They give 2 hoots about 2 wheeler riders especially women and kids. Absolute negligence. There is not a single action from traffic police on these. Seize the buses and trucks for at least 1-2 months. That's when the owner will not pressurize the driver to speed up to pick more passengers and increase his collection. He will learn the hard way.

Happy to know action is taken in neighboring district. Where is our RTO ? Where is our municipality? Where is our panchayat ? Why there is no action taken in udupi ? Autos have no meter. On insisting they speak harsh. THOSE WHO PUT METERS THEIR METER RUNS LIKE ANYTHING. Garage ppl do da adjustments in the meter. Why govt is looting? High beam lights are seen on every three, two, four wheelers except buses. People r saying auto druvers association is in link with the main political leader of udupi. No voting this time. First chrvk the autos and their fake meters. Repair the ditches on the road. Check the head lights or high beem lights. Traffuc can make good money by checking the vehicles. Why v are paying taxes for looting us ? Mangalore is better than here.

Provide better street lights before fining the cars with bright lights. most of the time we cannot see the road properly with normal lights due to poor street lights.

Changing the headlight or tail lamp from the existing one is not authorized. Additional lights in any form are not allowed as per the motor vehicles act. As those can become a cause of accidents.

Instead of Fining people, police should remove the extra lights, and install the vehicles with stock lights with direct beam blockers. I had personally upgraded my vehicles lights from 60W to 120 W and it was worth (One Flash of high beam & even the bus drivers would dim the light and Low beam was just adequate) But, I had to down grade as 120W Bulb was draining the Batter.

These powerful LED lights are a nuisance and dangerous to opposite lane drivers and even pedestrians; car owners fix them to make their cars look more dashing at the cost of other people's lives! Even auto drivers fix decorative disco lights as if they are driving a divine chariot. Best is to ban them as fining will serve the purpose only for a short period of time! BTW, what happened to the pvt buses unnecessary honking and the high footboards which makes climbing on it very difficult for the senior citizens and the sick, which needs to be rectified immediately!

According to CMV( Central Motor Vehicles) rule number 106 the construction of headlights has to be such that it is, Permanently deflected downwards to such an extent that it is not capable of dazzling any person a) At a distance of 8 metres from the front of lamp, b) At a distance of 0.5 metre to the right side of the lamps, i.e., fitted at right extreme of the vehicle, from the right edge of the lamp, and c) At a height of 1.5 metres from the supporting plane of the vehicle So, if you’re the vehicle owner, it is your responsibility to check these specifications as well. The CMV rules ensure road safety but to top it, one is also liable for a ticket of INR 100 for using a high beam(in situations where it’s not needed) as per the section 112 and 177 MVA(Motor Vehicles Act). There can be a subsequent fine (up to INR 300) too.

Monty; rules and regulations apart, who follows rules in a highly corrupt (40%) country; somebody has rightly said, "rules are made to be broken", and this applies to us! Just see the state of public transportation in this so called "smart city", forget other issues!
