Udupi: Over 300 fishermen join Congress in presence of Kaup candidate Vinay Kumar Sorake

Udupi, May 3: With fishermen of the coastal region facing several hardships, Congress candidate for Kaup Vinay Kumar Sorake said never in the history of electoral politics have so many people joined the party.

Over 300 fishermen including their leaders along with youths have en masse joined the Congress party in Uchila village at a programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Sorake said BJP has simply treated Mogaveera community as a votebank while depriving them of several facilities. He said the Congress has drawn up an exclusive development plan for the coastal region and promised that the party will sincerely strive to release a separate manifesto for the region.

He said the party had already given an assurance to fulfill a slew of promises, adding that, he himself is responsible for bringing them to fruition and to the people.

Several people joined the Congress at a function in the evening held under the aegis of Udupi district fishermen Congress president Vishwas V Ameen, Deepak Armal and former taluk panchayat vice-chairman Shekarappa.

Mogaveera community leader Sukumar Bangera, Roopesh Mendon, Anand Tingalaya, Anish, Yashwant Bangera, Umesh Poojary, Dayananda Kotiyan, Shivanna Bangera, and Lakshman Gurikara took the initiative to co-opt people into the Congress party.

Sukumar Bangera assured the party that all those who had joined the Congress would work hard and unitedly to ensure the victory of Vinay Kumar Sorake in the elections.
