Udupi, May 6: Dr Arathi Krishna, secretary of NRI section of All India Congress committee said that a separate ministry will be established for NRI Kannadigas if Congress comes to power in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Speaking at a press conference held in the city on Saturday May 6, Dr Arathi said, “During the Covid pandemic, NRI Indians and Kannadigas faced a lot of hardship as there was no suitable ministry in the government of Karnataka to address their grievances. Though there is an NRI Kannadiga committee in Karnataka, it has not had a president for many years. This matter is brought to the notice of top leaders of the Congress party and is added to the election manifesto.

“In addition to forming a separate ministry, every year ‘Kannada Nammadu - Kannadigaru Naavu’ programme will be organized every year in line with Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. Rs 1000 crore reserve fund scheme is added in the manifesto to encourage the NRI Kannadigas to run industries in the state,” she said.

Sheikh Hamid, Udupi district in-charge of NRI Congress department was present.
