Moodbidri, May 11: Polling officials nabbed a worker of Jharkhand descent with an identity card of a person who lived abroad and handed him over to the police on Wednesday, May 10 in the evening.

The accused Prakash Rajat who works as someone who lays floor tiles tried to cast his vote with the voter-ID of the house owner where he worked at the 87th polling station of Thodaru village. Members of the household where he works live abroad. He was caught in the impersonation act after some JD(S) party workers suspected foul play.

The BJP workers who were also present gathered in front of the Moodbidri police station and immediately demanded the police to arrest those people and the forces which were behind such cases of bogus voting.

BJP Mandal president Sunil Alva told reporters, "This is not the only case. We have received complaints from our workers about such bogus voting from Valapadi and other places where such cases are rampant. How did the worker get the voter-ID of the person who lives abroad? Who is responsible and behind this act? A thorough probe should be conducted to go to the bottom of the issue." He said the BJP will separately file a complaint in this regard.

The voter-IDs have been tampered and the pictures have been systematically replaced with someone else's picture who resembled the original cardholder.

Workers have demanded a thorough investigation into the matter to get to the bottom of the issue.

Town municipality council member Rajesh N, Samitraj Daregudde and other party workers were also present.

Protesters left the police station after sub-inspector Siddappa gave them an assurance that the matter will be investigated thoroughly.
