Basavaraj Bommai resigns as Karnataka CM, takes responsibility for poll defeat

Bengaluru, May 14 (IANS): Basavaraj Bommai has submitted his resignation as the Karnataka Chief Minister on Saturday following the defeat in the state Assembly elections.

Bommai had submitted his resignation to the Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot at the Raj Bhavan where he was accompanied by senior BJP leaders.

Speaking to reporters after submitting the resignation, the former Chief Minister said that he will take responsibility for the defeat of the BJP in Karnataka.

"Let the welfare of the people be ensured without destroying the economy. We will work efficiently as an opposition party," he added.

"Last time we won 104 seats. This time though we got more percentage of votes, seats have decreased."

"Defeat is a defeat. The introspection will be done and mistakes would be rectified," the former Chief Minister added.

"We are a national party. We won't work just for the election. We work for nation building. The Lok Sabha elections would come in another eight to 10 months. We will build the party. This result won't count for the Lok Sabha election," Bommai said.

BJP should now think of investing in some real development projects in Karnataka. All the multi-billion crore projects are announced only in the northern states especially Gujarat, Whereas south Indian states are actually getting better income to center. Wake up call for BJP to treat South India the same as North India. People are educated now and can see what's happening. If Congress does the same bullshit they did in the last term again, it will not be BJP or Congress in the next term.

Remember you called 'congress' as scrap? Now what are you? Do politics like a man, don't bitch and back bite your opponents. People don't take much time in recognising you these days. Public knows more than you do of what is happening around.

Bye bye Shri Bommai ji. Thank you for your wonderful (!) Administration. Whatever, your name will remain as karnataka's CM in our history book. How many times you had been to delhi for solving small small issues! also, inviting leaders for campaigning innumerable times...If saved all this money, our karnataka would have been richest in the whole world...

Karnataka is still very rich. Otherwise the new government would not have promised free electricity, food grains and free bus rides for women. Let us hope and pray that these freebees will not be a burden for us, the middle class.

Hey BJP whatever has happened don't think about past Now if you really want to win next LS election then you have to appoint new young educated candidates atleast BA in politics.dont keep old candidates.uneducated.also throw them all. Then you will win

Dear Joshua, There wont be good administration at all, by the appointment of new educated candidates.....These educated candidates, cannot work or are not made work all by themselves and with full interest......There are other elements who suppress them and make them work as per their ideologies....As i said earlier, people of twin districts know the facts/things happening around...but, they are ready to face any hike but never vote other parties than BJP....in conclusion, all are much educated and remaining some have formal education.....Do you think educated candidates will do the needful dear ? Just think

Financial mis management under him will take years to correct. State debt rose from 2.31 lakh crore to 6.89 lakh core. And these guys talk about freebies. They have looted so much for themself. God forbid if the govt feeds its people for that nobody goes hungry.
