Mangaluru: Shop gutted in fire accident, goods worth Rs 8 lac destroyed

Mangaluru, May 17: Fire broke out accidentally at a shop owned by Geetha Karkera in Bengre on Tuesday, May 16, resulting in losses amounting to more than Rs 8 lac.

The shop had downed its shutters at about 10 pm on Monday. On the following day in the morning at around 2 am, a thick layer of smoke was seen emanating from the shop.

Locals and the fire fighting force rushed to douse the fire in an operation and were successful in putting out the fire. But, by the time fire could be doused, goods in two rooms of the shop had got gutted.

It is learnt that ice cream, fancy articles and general items were being sold in the shop and were gutted in the fire accident. All the goods had been destroyed by the time the fire fighting force could arrive.

    All ungraded and old wiring will lead to this during summer. Similar to what happens in Dubai, Sharjah warehouse fires. These places do not have a/cs. The temperature builds up and there is no airflow leading to melting of insulation around the wires which are of low quality.
