Accepted decision in larger interest of party: D K Shivakumar

New Delhi, May 18 (IANS): After suspense over the Karnataka chief minister has ended, state Congress chief D.K. Shivakumar, who has been given the post of Deputy CM, said on Thursday that he accepted the decision in the larger interest of the party.

Speaking to the media at the residence of party general secretary K.C. Venugopal, Shivakumar said, "The party high command has taken a decision."

He also said that he has taken the decision in the larger interest of the party.

After holding back to back meetings for three consecutive days, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge ended the suspense over Karnataka Chief Minister by picking Siddaramaiah for the top post with Shivakumar as his deputy.

Both the leaders were vying for the top post.

Siddaramaiah is scheduled to meet Venugopal before leaving for Bengaluru, where the CLP meeting has been called on Thursday evening to make the announcement.

Congress won 135 out of 224 seats in the May 10 polling, followed by the BJP with 66 and JD(S) 18 seats.

    Absolutely...DKSHI is more powerful and has got more clout than siddu..while siddu is a honest leader with good admin skills, its DKS who has the power and strong will to face any challlenge.Its only because of his stratergy that congress destroyed bjp in karnataka. DKS should have been given the CM post as siddu has already been CM of karnataka earlier.

    Though he says so, he had no options but to accept DCM post. Soniaji was very clear, either accept to her decision or to move DCM post to other deserving senior leaders. So if DKSi refused it would never had come back. Having full majority , for another 5 years he cannot dream of becoming even a cabinet minister too for his arrogance.

    Its a good sign the deadlock has ended. The sad thing is , being a DCM he will find it hard to steer away from the court cases he has. Siddu may only support to an extent. Also there is pressure from the WAQF board to nominate DCM from their community. I hope its not Rajasthan 2.0.

    DKS single handedly brought back Congress to power and he deserved to be the CM. Besides that, he knows what to say and when to say it, unlike a few Congressmen. He also knows how to strongly counter BJP's moves and how to pay them back in the same coin. He has remained loyal to the Congress inspite of BJP's pressure & dirty tricks. For that, he deserves respect and salute of each and every Congress supporter in the country. In the times to come, he should get a role at the national level to take on the BJP.

    Siddu just won because of a safe constituency of his son, playing the 'compassionate' card. Not on his own merit. DKS deserved it more. Unfortunately he has got cases on him, which even Siddu highlighted when asked for justification for himself being being the CM.

    Wrong decision by DKS. DKS is where is he exactly was, when it comes to his serious legal issues. 18 cases is not a small number. He wont have the power or rationale to ignore or decline summons . As he is on bail. Frequent visits to courts in full media glare will only send wrong signals and perhaps in the long run they may be a mull for a replacement,since its just a DCM.

    Good decision. DKS has always been loyal to the party and its high command delivering success to the party and being a Trouble Shooter too. But for the cases against him which could be used as a weapon by the BJP during the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 against the Congress, he would be an efficient and dynamic CM like Siddaramaiah as far as governance is concerned. Congress party is sure that DKS will continue to work for the party in Telangana and other States going to the polls as he is a very STRONG match to the grass root politics of the BJP. Whatever the decision we hope that Siddaramaiah will abide by the decision taken by the party.

    There are many with Power and Money..Almost all the politicians have power and money, but you also need clout and strong personality like DKS..You need to have the power to consolidate your MLA's , you need to have clout to counter anti poaching of your MLA's..There are very few like DKS who are very powerful who can single handedly decide the fate of a political party.I dont see any leader in any party who has that level of clout.
