Day after blasts, Mumbaikars venture out boldly

Mumbai, July 14 (IANS) A day after three three blasts rocked India's financial and entertainment hub, Mumbaikars with their unshakable spirit Thursday ventured out of their homes and resumed their daily chores.

On Wednesday evening, at least 17 people were killed and 131 injured as three blasts ripped through the city -- at Dadar in central Mumbai and Zaveri Bazaar and Opera House in south Mumbai -- making it the worst terror attack since the 26/11 savagery.

The city's lifeline -- the Western Railway, Central Railway and the BEST buses -- had the usual crowds of office-goers this morning.

"Today, on account of very heavy rains in the city and Thane, a few people decided to stay put at home, but a majority are out as usual," Kiran S.V., an executive who works in Worli, barely three kilometres from the scene of blast in Dadar, told IANS.

A resident of Mira Road suburb of Thane, she said even her two children went to school "as usual" and everything appeared to be like any other day.

Archana Shukla, who works in south Mumbai, said that she "never even expected" suburban trains to run empty today.

"I am a Mumbaikar and we shall not be scared by these terror attacks. Like me, lakhs of co-commuters are in the trains, buses and roads. It actually gives strength to each other," Archana said.

Mehul Shah, a tax consultant from Malad, said he started 15 minutes early for his office, anticipating delays on account of the rains and was happy to notice that thousands of other commuters had also started early for work.

Similarly, schools, colleges, shops and commercial establishments were open and working as usual all over the city and suburbs.

Meanwhile, train services on the Central Railway were disrupted Thursday morning due to heavy rains since Wednesday.

A railway official said that there was waterlogging on the tracks between Thane-Kalwe stations, leading to delays and disruption in services.

If you give back all these terrorists, then that is called bravery. This is shear cowardness. Indians and Mumbaikars have not hit back till now.

Why are we blaming each other? instead we should get together to get rid of the Devils who did this. My poor Mumbai is attacked and bleeding once again. This is the place where everybody comes and makes a living, and Mumbai does not allow anyone to go hungry. These Devils have attacked the hands that feed them and they should not be spared. My sympathy goes to the families of the injured and who lost their loved ones.

Yes, despite three bomb blasts (20 dead and 131 injured) Mumbaikars with their unshakable spirit, ventured out of their homes next morning and resumed their daily chores. Is there any alternative for them? No work, no pay. In this era of near 100% marks for admissions parents do not want their children to miss school, even primary classes. It is not unusual to see that news items like above are being used by some fanatics as a platform to post their usual filth.

Thomas, Mlore Even BJP Atalji govt also took decision after discussing the problems. I think you are definately not clever than Atalji. They didnot release the terrorits at one shot, but cant help it in your case. In case if the same type of decision had been taken by UPA govt. Then you would have told JAI HO UPA 100 times instead of accusing.

Rightly said…Praveen Bangera…it’s not about being bold…its only tough life and it goes on…people who have choices would act accordingly…Well said…Vinod Shetty…this Mr. Nagesh Nayak is only a coward…a person who lacks courage in facing danger…difficulty…opposition…pain…and mainly people…a very very timid or easily intimidated person I would say…that’s why he shows off here in the comments column…

he would not have the courage to do anything at all in his real life…Ours is a democratic country…its very much true because one enjoys freedom of speech and expression here…Here people can voice their opinions openly and straight…In a way democracy makes sure that equality is maintained…In India all the citizens are treated equally and have the same set of rights as the others…By true definition democracy does not differentiate on the basis of religion…colour…caste and creed…

however, we have a exception in our india…that Mr. Nagesh Nayak…who hides somewhere…and types all anti to one particular set or group of people of india…for that he is always in a hunt for the very nation sensitive issues…what he does is beyond doubt disgusting… at least 17 people are killed and 131 injured as a result of these three blasts…and this Nagesh Nayak uses this sensitive issue to pin point or prove his point…among these 148 people…they would be of any religion…group…caste and creed…the people related to the deceased & injured and the injured are suffering right now and would also suffer in future…can Nagesh Nayak do anything for them?

However, there have been instances when the term democracy has been misused…The main reason for this being ignorance…The government which runs the country is chosen by the people, for the people... The elected members then serve for duration of 5 years…so what you can do Mr. Nagesh Nayak is vote a better candidate next time….

Think your entire family was in that plane , now tell what will u tell the PM??????

Since your parents are not there in the plane, dont think that others dont have value for thier life, even the now HM of India said that whatever decision was took by Atalji was not wrong.

I would have Anaysed the situation very well keeping my political motive aside. I would Spoke to the military General and plan out a situation what the Israel's Army did when their plane was hijacked by the Terrrorist and landed in Africa. What do we lack in? we have a strong Army.

Whats the point letting the terrorist go for close to 180 people (and there was one guy killed in this) and in return getting a 500 Killed again.
    Hope this make sense.

Perhaps India is the only country wherein terrorist criminals are not subjected to punishment even though their role in crime is established. There may not be a change in the perception of terrorist groups as long as we are bent upon to feed the captive criminals chicken biriyani and spend crores of tax payers amount for their security by creating high security delux luxury jails. We know only to conduct press meets and condemn the terrorist attacks in harest words,, ask the people to keep calm and united. There ends the matter.Life begins a fresh the next day!

However he must be still after his only hobby and interest which is raiding pubs and dance bars. He will order the entire Mumbai police force to keep raiding bars and pubs, harass innocent patrons and women waitresses and forget terrorism and other crimes which according to him are minor offences.

Thomas, Blore, Relatives of hostages were demonstrating in front of the then PM's house. Congress was sitting quiet. It was a very tough decision to take. At the all party meeting it was decided that Govt. take its own decision. So Vajpayee Govt. took a decision to release the terrorists.

For BJP leaders who were fighting the terrorists through out their life, releasing terrorists was a very painful decision. Ofcourse if it was a Congress-I govt. they would have very happy to release the terrorists because it comes within their vote bank politicis.

Afterwards, leaders like Digvijay Singh would have d that "our govt. wants to maintain a co-ordial relationship with all sections of the people including misguided youths". Anyway, now there is no excuse for still keepiong live Afzal Guru, Ajmal Kasab etc.

Terrorist attack on soft target is a cowardly act. No religion or party ethics encourage killing of innocent people. With the co-operation of all religious organisations and political parties such faceless cowards should be phased out our society systematically. The Gen-Next should expose such people in their community or household and they are apolitical and the best whistleblowers within in the system.

Thomas, Blore it was a very crucial situtation because so many innocent indians were kidnaped as their plan was hijacked by terrorist. During that saving our innocent indians was more important. Even small to small mistake from our indian govt, so many innocent indians would have lost their lives by the terrorist. When such things happen then again people like you blame BJP govt then. So i will ask you one thing what you would have done if you were the head of BJP govt and was facing such crucial situation during that time. It's very easy for your to give advise and suggestions after that incident. Kindly comment please???

'Resilient Mumbai' is the caption which has now become a  fashion. It is not apt to coin these captions at least caring for those who have lost their lives and their loved ones who will never forget the incident. At what cost resilience?

Prithviraj Chauhan should desist from making remarks like 'operations post blast 'have improved! His main priority now should be to annihilate those who have carried out this heinous attack! Otherwise India will be a playing ground for terrorists to celebrate their birthdays as seems to be the case this time round.

TV channels , print and electronic media should desist from repeating oft repeated cliches during these attacks which have become common. Please spare a thought for the common man more so the man on the street who keeps dying for no fault of his.

Normally after blasts media highlights statements like "Mumbai returned to normal state", "Mumbai maintained peace", "Mumbaikars won against terrorists by keeping calm". But the point here Mumbai is such a city where life doesnt run unless you go out. Common man has to follow his daily routine whatever the case may be. Just an attempt to wipe off tears and making it forget.
