Kurukshetra, July 16 (IANS) Fiftythree students were taken ill after being served mid-day meal, suspected to be contaminated, in a government school in this Haryana district Saturday, officials said. A probe has been ordered.
Students complained of vomiting, headache and dizziness after the meal which was supplied by an NGO, said an official.
"Fiftythree students of a primary school in Raha village in Pheowa block were rushed to hospital after they had the mid-day meal. They were complaining of vomiting, headache and dizziness. This food is supplied by an NGO," said Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner C.G. Rajnikanthan.
"We have collected the food samples and sent them for laboratory test. All the students have been discharged after check-up," he said.
Earlier 48 students of two government primary schools, at Doda Khedi village and Gobindgarh village, were taken ill after eating their mid-day meal Thursday.
"This is a very serious issue and students of different schools have fallen ill, after having mid-day meal, within two days," he said.
