Mangaluru, Jun 5: “The BJP is unable to tolerate the guarantees that are being implemented by Congress within such a short period of time," said former MLC Ivan D’Souza.
Addressing the media here on Monday, June 5, he said “The BJP has started spreading false stories about the guarantees proposed by the Congress and are trying to protest. During their tenure the government failed to address basic issues like hunger, unemployment and the conditions of the poor. But now when the Congress has implemented them, they are unable to tolerate them.
“The prime minister alleged that the Congress party has been distributing bogus guarantees whereas these guarantees are meant for the welfare of the poor.
“Earlier during the BJP’s rule, the government focused on religious issues and moral policing but now it is about ration cards, electricity, education and employment. This is the difference between the BJP and the Congress.
“The BJP’s protest is against the poor. They should join with us in implementing these policies instead of protesting.
“We are going to fulfill our promises and the first guarantee that will be implemented is ‘Grihajyothi’. About 2.14 crore household consumers in the state are consuming less than 200 units of electricity and all these households will be beneficiaries of this scheme.
“We have requested the state government to increase the KSRTC bus facilities in our district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is only helping big industrialists like Ambani and Adani to grow their wealth who are least bothered about the poor citizens. In 121 countries, India is in 112th place in terms of the hunger index. Karnataka will become the role model for other states with the guarantees provided by the Congress party,” he said.
Grihajyoti beneficiaries in the state will be provided with free electricity facility effective August 2023. If a consumer uses less than 200 units then his monthly electricity bill will be zero.
