New Delhi, Jul 19: The main accused in the cash-for-vote scam Sanjeev Saxena who was arrested on Monday July 18 admitted that he had bribed the three Bharatiya Janata Party MPs with the money given to him by secretary of former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.
Police told the Delhi court on Monday that Saxena (50) even made the MPs talk to Singh on his mobile phone on July 22, 2008 on the day the scam was exposed at the parliament. The mobile phone used has also been destroyed.
He has been remanded to three days of custody. Saxena was arrested on the statements of now ex-BJP MPs Mahavir Singh Bhagora and Fagan Singh Kulaste, who named him as the person who offered them money to abstain from voting during the trust motion moved by the UPA-I government.
Another accused in this case, Amar Singh's driver Sanjay who drove Saxena with the money to the third MP Ashok Argal's house is absconding.
It was at Argal's house that a sting operation by a private news channel was recorded. A forensic examination found the video's contents to be genuine.
The next job that the Delhi police said they will take up is to trace the money that made way into the Parliament. They said that a large sum of money has been traced to Mysore, Dehradun, Gurgaon and Lucknow.
Police sources said that they were not able to question the two sitting MPs as they were yet to recieve permission in order to do that.
A case has been registerd on Argal, Kulaste and Bhagora under the Prevention of Corruption Act after they barged into the Lok Sabha carrying Rs 1 crore in cash alleging that they were bribed to abstain from voting.
A seven-member Parliamentary Committee had been constituted to probe the allegations.
